Hip Hop Heritage

ABOUT THE PROJECT

The aim of hip hop heritage project was to take a look at the history behind Hip hop.  Where it all began and the effects it has had on the lives of those living in the UK  and in particular Nottinghamshire.

We held workshops and seminars all over Nottingham in Youth centres, Schools, After school clubs and Community centres and did live dance performances outside the Royal Concert hall and in Victoria Shopping centre.  We introduced Participants to Djing, Graffiti art and Break dancing.

The Project looked at the history behind all the elements educating participants about how they all began.

The Project produced a DVD Documentary interviewing a number of people who where involved in the Hip hop scene now and when it first came to Nottingham about their involvement and their memories.

We looked at the fashion then and how it is today, educating the younger generation on how Hip their parents really were.

To end the project we celebrated by holding an event at the Nottingham Royal Centre on 4th September 2010 which exhibited all the work created throughout the project and held workshops and seminars throughout the day  inviting speakers, Rappers and Dancers to perform in the evening as well as having a Hip Hop Time line fashion show and a Break dance battle, were contestants battled it out to win a cash prise of £300.  Which was won by 10 year old Skye Storer.
